Court of Appeal led by Judge Gjin Gjoni changed the precautionary measures and released on obligatory court appearance the two businessmen, Bajram and Martin Fisheku, accused of fraud with the “vergine” oil during 2007-2009.

While for the five other suspects, Reshat Elezi, Iliaz Fisheku, Gani Prençe, Flamur Merkaj and Fadil Abdurrahmani, the Court of Appeal judged as legal the instances taken by the General Court, leaving them under arrest.

The same court will judge the instances taken on five other detainees, whose appeal will be reviewed this Tuesday.

The “vergine oil” operation was firstly reported by former minister Dritan Prifti. The General Prosecutor declared that after some months of investigations, they were able to shed light on the scheme that distributed the “vergine” sub-product as clean petrol.

According to the General Prosecutor, the “Euroil” company bought “vergine” sub-product with the help of “Martini” and “Fisheku” companies, which compiled the documentation as if it was to be exported out of the country, defrauding the consumers and selling it as clean oil.

The General Prosecutor claims that this scheme of fraud, money laundering and power abuse crimes committed by the accused custom officials has sold to the Albanian market almost 50.000 metric tons of “vergine” oil.
