The former First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Labor Party,
at the same time the first President of Pluralist Albania, Ramiz Alia,
will be buried this Sunday.

Regardless the controversy about his role in the dictatorship period and the beginning of the pluralism, Ramiz Alia will be buries with the honors of an ex President. The Albanian state will organize this Sunday, at 10:00-11:00, homages at the Former Military House.

Albania’s ceremony regulation provides four types of funerals: state ceremony, which is the highest; official ceremony; military ceremony; partial military and official ceremony.

For the former state leaders and a series of other categories, the law provides the second level, the official ceremony.

The official ceremonies are organized for people who have not been involved in the clause 9.5. The decision is taken by the Council of Ministers.

With the permission of the family members, the homage ceremony is organized in the respective institution where is placed the coffin and is opened the Book of Condolences.

This ceremony doesn’t include a band, guard of honors or firing of volley shots as a salute.

In the ceremony are present state personalities, who remain silent until the coffin has entered the grave. The ceremony expenses are organized by the respective institution.

This is the first time that a former Albanian President has passed away, and it is unclear if the Albanian Prime Minister will respect the ceremony or not.

The Prime Minister has publicly condemned the role of the President Alia in the communist regime.
