No sign for resolving crisis at CEC

Five days before the Parliament disperses, there is still no sign for resolving the crisis at the Central Election Commission.

The electoral secretary at the Socialist Party, Damian Gjiknuri, declared for Top Channel that there has been no signal from the Democratic Party for any negotiation.

“We had no signal for negotiations. We know that there are efforts by the international community, but I cannot comment about this here. The best thing is to find a quick solution. The Parliament can be summoned and give an end to this situation, which for me is the most important thing in order to have fair elections”, Gjiknuri declared.

Gjiknuri says that the Socialist Party is ready for a solution, as they are ready to hold the elections only with four members at the Central Election Commission. He shows the strategy of the Socialist Party for the management of the process that this time is connected even with the international community, of Prime Minister will keep insisting to control this entire institution, according to Gjiknuri.

“We have stated that if he wants full control at the Central Election Commission, then he can keep the Central Election Commission. We will prepare for every level, from the Zonal Electoral Commissions, which give the result. If the Central Election Commission will enter in this process illegally, they will face an increased legal pressure, not only from the people but also by the international community, since they will violate the laws and the responsibility will be on these four people, who will be blamed by everyone if they enter this process illegally. The elections could go down. The elections are made at the Voting Centers and the ballot counting units. The difference will be such that they can do nothing to the result”, Gjiknuri declared.

“Better not using technology, if it is an obstacle”

The Secretary for Electoral Matters at the Socialist Party commented about the failure of the electronic voting in Fier. If it fail in the next test too, then it will not be used in the elections.

“I think that technology should use the process. If it turns into a problem, it’s better if it is not applied at all. For the way how this project was introduced, technology had problems and I think that a delayed process could bring problems, and this is what happens”, Gjiknuri declared.

Different from the electronic voting in Fier, the identification and registration process in Tirana has been positive so far in Tirana. He confirms that the Socialist Party is working with the voters’ lists and declared that a list with the names of 20.000 voters who are suspected to be doubled will be published on their website.

“No one should think voting twice, now that the Penal Code has become harsher”, Gjiknuri declared.
