No phone communication in several areas

Many isolated areas from the snow are losing their phone connection with
the rest of the country, due to the lack of the electricity in the
antennas, and some of them are even damaged.

This difficult situation was noted especially in north, where the snow thickness reaches more than 2 meters.

The main help appeals are for medical emergencies or lost connections with isolated families in deep villages with few inhabitants. A similar appeal arrived on Top Channel from Thessalonica, Greece, with the relatives of a 9 member family in Sllove, Peshkopia, and requested help for their isolated family which was in need of medical help.

There were help appeals from southern Albania too, from Korce, Skrapar and Tepelena, where snow has isolated many residents. The most problematic village is Lekas, with more than 1000 people isolated from weeks now, without electricity or phone communication. The Lekas head of commune asked the urgent opening of the communication ways for the residents, while the authorities are working to open the roads in both ways.

Snow has destroyed many houses

In areas where the snow thickness goes over one meter, the biggest danger for the houses comes from the roofs.

For this reason, the Peshkopia firefighters are helping buildings to clean their roofs, especially in schools, kindergartens and other public institutions.

Several houses have been damaged and become unlivable, after the weight of the snow ha destroyed their roofs.
