No compromise on justice reform, Rama: “We will not wait anymore”

The Rama-Basha meeting did not produce any compromise. The Prime
Minister was the first one speaking for the media after the meeting with
the opposition, which concluded at 20:00.

“Unfortunately, we could not convince the Democratic Party to vote the draft that we signed together. I am happy to tell Albanians today that I made every possible effort to give our adversaries a real opportunity for compromise without damaging the essential content of the project”, Rama said.

The Prime Minister said that they sat to the table with a plan offered by the foreign experts to facilitate dialogue and to find a closer stance between parties.

“We had accepted this plan at 100%, even the 2/3rd that has been requested by the DP after the Venice report”, he said.

But even this did not convince the Democratic Party, and Rama said he was expecting this.

“For the surprise of anyone, but not mine, the DP refused the offer that equalized the majority and the opposition for choosing the candidates of the justice system. I am not one of those who think that the Democratic Party wants a justice reform. The DP has made everything possible to delay this and change its core”, Rama said.

The government says that this meeting ends the justification of the opposition to not vote the reform.

“The DP cannot tell Albanians, Brussels or Washington that they have any other reason to not vote the reform”, Rama declared.

In these conditions, the majority will not wait any longer for the Democratic Party to realize the reform.

“We will not wait for the DP. We will continue our path. However, until it is voted, there is time for Democrats to not lose this train”, he said.
