No celebration with poverty

 The real feast in her house is when her parents have been able to secure the daily food, and this New Year’s eve will not be different for her.

Manuela says that the times when she has slept without eating at night, are not few. She lives in an almost ruined house, together with the six persons of her family.

“This year I want to play with toys.  I have never had a doll”, she says.

Her father, Dalip Hyka, this year has no possibility to secure to his family the New Year’s rich table. The extreme poverty prevails in the house of Dalip Hyka, in Godolesh, Elbasan.

“There’s nothing in my house. No sink, no washing machine, no refrigerator, nothing, only an old TV that my brother gave me. We’re living in the worst conditions, only with 40 ALL (40 USD) monthly social assistance from the state, and we’re six people in here. How do we meet ends? With painful efforts. When have even stayed without anything to eat”, he says.

His wife, Drita, says that the situation is really critic. She pleads for help for her children.

“We are in the worst conditions and we don’t know what to do. We cannot celebrate the New Year”, she says.

Their house is almost ruined and life there is expected to become even more difficult in these strong winter days.

Today, when everyone will celebrate the New Year, the children of Dalip and Drita Hyka will sleep again without eating in the house where poverty is the one to set the rules.
