No boycott, the opposition will participate in local elections

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, removed any doubt about the participation of the opposition in the local elections.

Basha was in Brussels, in a meeting with the of the Political Assembly of the European Popular Parties, where he condemned the territorial division as a map that serves to the government and goes against the citizens’ interests.

By asking a wider monitoring by the European partners for the elections of June 2015, Basha considered them as a popular referendum.

“For this reason, we consider June 21st as a big referendum, where citizens will give their votes not only for the opposition candidates, but also against this territorial division, by making way to a process through which we will make a territorial map that goes in favor of their interests. I asked for a full monitoring of these elections, keeping in mind that the Rama-Meta government has proved that they buy votes, as it happened in Korce. I was guaranteed that not only the European Popular Party, but all EU institutions will be committed for this major cause, the freedom and democracy cause in Albania”, Basha declared.

In parallel with the local elections, the Democratic Party will treat the decriminalization of the Parliament. According to Basha, this is an urgent need, since the recent drug bust showed that the government failed in the fight against the crime.

“The Rama-Meta government not only failed with the fight against crime, but they are also the responsible for the uncertainty in our country, for the flourishing of traffics and for the mixture of gangs with power to the point that they can build a cocaine lab, where the police seized 1 billion EUR. There will be no other priority for Albania, if crime will stay in Parliament and the government rather than behind bars. We are determined to work. I trust that if there is enough political will to not interrupt each other’s work, there will men and women at the Socialist Party who have had enough and are ready to contribute not for the SP or the DP, but for the Albanian citizens, who deserve a Parliament free of crime”, Basha declared.
