Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, will consult the heads of
Parliamentary Groups for what his press release considers
“identification of the best values” that must represent the next
Prosecutor.
The meeting will start this Tuesday at the Presidency and will be similar to the meeting that was held for the election date.
The newest party led by the former President, Bamir Topi, might not be invited even this time.
President Nishani is expected to decree the new General Prosecutor very soon. Official sources said for Top Channel that Nishani had created the conviction that the mandate of the current GP, Ina Rama, could not be extended more than November 22nd, five years after she was voted by the Parliament.
The debates for the mandate of the General Prosecutor are related with the fact that Ina Rama was appointed in this post a few months before the Constitutional amends, where the democrats and the socialists agreed for a five-year long mandate for the General Prosecutor.
Until Ina Rama was appointed, the General Prosecutor had an unlimited mandate and could only resign or be removed by the President and a Parliamentary Commission investigation.
