Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, held meetings with the
Parliamentary Group leaders regarding the new replacements at the
Supreme and Constitutional Courts.
The head of the Democratic Party Parliamentary group, Astrit Patozi, started the meeting at 10:00 but refused to give any comment for the media. However, Patozi declared on the phone that the DP has no special criteria, but the moral and professional integrity of the potential candidates has the utmost importance. According to Patozi, this is a positive practice that serves to a better communication and consolidation of the inter-institutional relations. With the advising of the Parliamentary groups, according to Patozi, they can respect the Constitutional Court decision that imposes interaction between the President and Parliament in the process that appoints leaders of Constitutional institutions.
Gramoz Ruci, head of the Socialist Parliamentary group, continued the meetings 60 minutes after, underlining the necessity to guarantee independent institutions. He declared that former President Topi had already sent a decree in Parliament to replace a vacancy at the Constitutional Court, which has not been reviewed yet by this institution. For the Socialists there are no other vacancies at the Constitutional Court, since the mandate of the two other members has not ended yet, according to Ruci.
“The President asked for an opinion regarding the two other vacancies, the mandates of two other Constitutional Court members. For us, there is no vacancy today, because the Constitutional Court and the Albanian government have considered that these mandates will end on 21 May 2013. IT is against the Constitution and illegal if the President decrees their replacement before their mandates are over”, Ruci declared.
President Nishani continued the meetings with Lefter Koka from the SMI, Fatmir Mediu from the Republican Party, Vangjel Dule from the UHRP and Shpetim Idrizi from the PJIU.
