Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
The Albanian President, Bujar Nishani, met with German Foreign Minister
who is attending a visit in our country. Nishani guaranteed Minister
Guido Westerwelle that Albania, although a small country, has a major
contribution in the peace and stability of the region.
“Albania will reinforce the relations of good neighbourhood, the regional cooperation and will encourage Albanians to support the development of democracy and economic prosperity in the countries where they live. This is based on a tradition that has offered peace and good relations with the neighbours”, the President declared.
The German diplomat said that he brought a very clear message from Germany: “Germany will support you in the European path. For us, it is not a national or economic matter, but a political and strategic stance for all Western Balkan countries to become part of the EU”.
The Foreign Minister Westerwelle underlined that the criteria are objective requirements. He said that the responsibility of the political factor in the next parliamentary elections is very important.
The Albanian President underlined that the EU integration remains a priority objective and Albania will keep working hard to reach the required standards, not only to contribute in Europe, but also for the Albanian citizens to profit from these standards.
The President underlined that Albania has the necessary infrastructure and capacities to hold free and honest elections, but the only challenge remains the political culture of the actors. He underlined that the Albanian political class will overcome this challenge successfully.
