Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The National Food Authority published the final results of the milk that was tested in Brescia, Italy, for its aflatoxin levels.
NFA declared that the Albanian milk has low Aflatoxin levels that pose no dangers to consumers.
“The Italian lab tests confirm that their results are equal to the Albanian labs. Most of the samples showed a lower aflatoxin level”, NFA declared.
According to the announcement, the aflatoxin level is 7-8 times lower than in America.
“We guarantee the consumers that the Albanian milk poses no dangers to their health”, NFA declared after removing the ban of the suspected brands.
The milk alarm created a conflict between the Albanian and Kosovan authorities. Tirana declared this Monday that the alarm was given intentionally from Kosovo authorities to favour dishonest competition.
Food authorities in Prishtina did not step back and declared that they will publish a super test that will confirm their concerns on Albanian goods.
How it started
On February 22nd, the Kosovo authorities announced that some brands of milk coming from Albania had levels of Aflatoxin that are higher than the EU standards.
Right after this news, the Albanian Ministry declared that the tests in Kosovo were still under process. But the Kosovo authorities released a statement that the values were higher than the EU standards.
However, the Kosovo authorities never published the exact value. The Albanian authorities sent samples in Brescia, Italy, and blocked some of the brands in the market.
This decision was followed by consequences among the milk producers in Albania, who said that all of this was based on dishonest competition.
The Albanian Ministry of Agriculture tried to calm the public by saying that the Aflatoxin are higher than the EU standards, but not higher than in other countries, especially in the entire Balkan region, including Kosovo.
