Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, gave important messages from the first government meeting of this year.
He asked the Albanian parties’ commitment to turn the 100th anniversary of the Albanian state into what he considered the visionary year for the country’s development in the next century.
The political messages occupied an important part in his speech, such as his readiness to consolidate the cooperation with the opposition and the continuity of the reached agreement for passing the qualified majority laws and the electoral reform.
“I want to guarantee the opposition that we are determined to stand to the agreement that we have reached, as I reiterate that nothing and no one will ever withhold this country’s progress. The “hostage” politics went on for all it could, but it failed. In a free country, the faith on freedom, on the rule of law and the democratic constitutionality, will never be taken hostage by anyone. We are determined and open for a sincere cooperation for the country’s best interests. We are decided to implement the laws and the constitution of this country”, Berisha declared.
The Prime Minister mentioned the election of the President, guaranteeing that the Constitution will be implemented and that there will be no agreements that go outside its principles.
“This is the year of the Presidential elections. I guarantee that the new President will be elected in full accordance with the Constitution. Any effort for imposing to Albania any desire that is above the Constitution, will fail as it has always failed. I wish for us to make great efforts in order to give to the country a President in the level of the Constitution and its laws, with full integrity”, Berisha declared.
During the government meeting, the PM paid a special attention to the economic performance of Albania. According to him, our country not only has had no crisis, but the customs and tax revenues proved the success of the Albanian economic model.
“The performance of the Albanian economy in 2011 realized more revenues than ever in the history of our country. There were constatnt declarations that the revenues had decreased, but the Albanian customs were closed with 101%, the taxes 2-3% less, with 295 billion ALL collected, different to 255 billion that were collected in 2009. Exactly 400 million USD more, or the exact value of the Tirana-Elbasan highway construction. And I am referring to 2009, not 2004, when these revenues were 97 billion”, Berisha declared.
