Gjirokaster will have a brand new maternity and new mothers will not be
forced to travel to Tirana for giving birth to their children. The work
completion was inspected today by the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama,
accompanied by the Health Minister, Ilir Beqja, and the Mayor of
Gjirokaster, Zamira Rami.
“You know better than me that this used to be like a war-torn hospital. Doors and windows had plastic wraps and not glass. Now it is a completely new maternity of European level. Certainly, we will continue working with the rest. The Health system is an open work site and it needs much more, but we will take things step by step”, Rama said.
The Prime Minister stopped at te Cercizi Square, which is undergoing reconstruction, as part of the government project named “Urban Revival”.
“It is important to conclude this part and continue with the rest. The square will be only for pedestrians. Then we will work with the first 20 homes that need to be restored, like the home of Ismail Kadare. We will intervene with the Development Fund to clean the area around all the new buildings”, the PM said.
Rama visited Saranda too, where he inspected the works for the construction of a new maternity in this town.
