The first day of the new school year started today in Albania with students singing the national anthem.
The data of the Ministry of Education show that this academic year the number of students is about 350 thousand from the first grade to the 12th grade, but this does not include vocational education students and kindergarten children.
The number of students continues to decrease this year due to migration of families mainly toward EU countries.
“We are missing Dion, he has gone to Germany. Two or three students are missing” – says one of the primary school teachers.
The decline in the number of students throughout Albania continues this school season, asabout 1,000 less youngsters have been registered in the tenth grade.

The new instructions of the Ministry of Education stipulate that based on the current situation of migration of Albanian families and also with the aim of increasing the quality of education, it has reduced the number of students permitted in one class, where the maximum number allowed is now 30 students.
3 schools and 6 first grades were not opened at the beginning of this new school year in the eastern Korça district, while the number of registrations in the first and 10th grades has decreased significantly.
The school of Gjonbabasi in Lekas was closed as there was only one student, as well as the schools of Potgozhan and Pleshishti in Pogradec, which had collective classes, were merged in the school of Trebinje.
