“In my country, the image of Albania has a lot to do before being improved”, this is the confirmation of the Dutch ambassador, Martin De La Bej during a national conference of anti-corruption.

The image of our country has produced skepticism among the Dutch Parliament Members, who must decide in the upcoming days if they will favor Albania’s status as proposed by the European Commission. The status that will be decided in December has attracted the attention of the Dutch media.

“De Telegraaf” says that Netherlands might be the first European Union country using veto against the candidate status. With the title “Netherlands doesn’t want Albania”, the article says that most of the Parliament Members at the Second Chamber are against the status.

“The European Commission wants to see Albania as a European Union member in the future, with the condition that they fight corruption, the organized crime and reform the public administration and the judiciary. The elections of this summer were the first test, for which the Commission will reward Albania”, the article says.

The Dutch government wants more progress from Albania as regards reforms, but they don’t exclude giving the status. While the government of this country could be for voting in favor, De Telegraaf lists the political parties that are against.
