Prime Minister Edi Rama said today regarding the names that will compete for the Albanian head of state, that if there is a preferable name by the opposition PD, it will be supported by PS.
“We are not sitting at the table with prejudices. We will judge on names and will not prejudge where the proposals come from. If a likable candidacy comes, it will have our 100% approval.
“If there is no likeable candidacy, we will make ourown proposals”, said Rama.
The Chairman of the PD Parliamentary Group, Enkelejd Alibeaj said that he was worried about the deadlines of the steps that will be taken, more than the name and profile of the candidates.
“Your proposal is that today’s date be considered as the start of the process and the 10th of May be the first round of voting. I do not agree it should be 7 days from that moment.
“The earliest deadline is May 24, while the constitution says that the process should start at least on this date, as long as the expiry of the current president’s term is July 24,” he said.
The head of the ruling SP parliamentary group, Taulant Balla, accepted Alibeaj’s proposal, and said he would stick strictly to the constitutional deadlines so as not to create the premises to later challenge the process in court.
