Negotiations for President

In an interview for Top Channel’s program “Top Story”, right after the
session was over, Edi Rama declared that the Prime Minister Sali
Berisha, after meeting all Parliamentary parties and discuss about the
president, fears a meeting with him, because he fears the opposition’s
arguments.

Rama insisted again for creating a meeting with the party leaders for discussing the presidential issue.

“Dialogue needs cooperation and communication between the parties. If the Prime Minister meets all party leaders, and even the ally party, when the opposition is us, then why is he meeting them, for having a coffee? The Prime Minister is avoiding the meeting because it is hard for him to face the arguments for building a process, and it is also difficult for him to leave the table where he will discuss the process.

It was very clear today that all the Prime Minister wanted was to delay the Parliament’s first two round, with the alibi that he is offering consensus when in fact he is trying to realize his plan by bringing his party notary.

What is clear is that we have not conditioned the schedule of how these points can be divided, of how the agenda can be created for treating these points, and how can these points be treated within a parliamentary session. We made our proposition. All parties must sit to dialogue, and each party must express its view. We are not bringing the four points for accepting them or leaving them, and we are not saying to treat them all at once. We are saying to sit and find the reason to cooperate, if we want to give our country a consensual president and reforms without which our European family cannot help us being part of them. Help us to help you! This is what they have repeated to us for months.

Everything can be resolved, but there is no political will, because the Prime Minister wants to withhold the electoral reform, since he cannot stay on that chair without guaranteeing a corrupted system. The Prime Minister is not ready to resolve the Parliamentary reform issue, because he cannot allow his MPs to be free to vote in secrecy. The Prime Minister is not ready even to choose a consensual president, for political reasons that are already known. If he will be ready, there is no reason for not electing the president in the second round, and solve all the remained solutions. This is very simple”, Rama declared.
