A few time after the verdict given by the Tirana Court, Shkelqim
Mustafa, for the former National Guard Commander, Ndrea Prendi, the
latter appeared in the Prosecution for an interrogation about the
January 21st event. This time, General Ndrea Prendi has rejected his own
declaration of some months ago.
Unofficial sources say that Prendi has said of having shot in the air, while in the other declaration he said that he hadn’t fired at all.
His driver, Margarit Kume, has declared that wasn’t present on the scene. According to the prosecutors, this has proved true.
General Prendi entered with the National Guard’s car, stayed at the Prosecution for about 90 minutes and then left, accompanied by the police.
Prendi is accused of having killed the protester Faik Myrtaj, based on the FBI ballistic examination, which proved that one of the 11 shots fired by his gun had taken the life of Faik Myrtaj.
On the same day, Margarit Kume is accused of obstructing justice by concealing evidence, after he changed the barrel of the gun that the general had used.
The IT Chief of the Prime Minister’s Office, Armando Kasaj, was accused for obstructing justice by deleting the video footage of the camera system server. He is also accused of power abuse. The prosecution asked the court to keep them under arrest, but the court ruled for house arrest.
The Court has given this measure even for the most serious charge, that of General Ndrea Prendi, who is accused of murder, based on the fact that the prosecution has seized the weapon with the signature of the Arming Unit Chief, and not with that of the owner.
But the prosecutors say that they have the releasing order by the National Guard for the weapon, and the declaration of the Arming Unit Chief who says that that specific weapon was taken by Prendi.
The two others are under house arrest because their crime doesn’t present a risk for the society.
