The NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, said that there has been pressure from Russia trying to influence the referendum in FYROM, top stop the country’s path towards NATO.
“Moscow is trying to stop FYROM from joining NATO, as they did with Montenegro when there was a failed coup”, said the leader of the world’s biggest military alliance.
Stoltenberg underlined that there enough examples to show that when Russia is actually getting involved in the political processes of the alliance.
New York Times also wrote an article yesterday, talking about the preparations of Macedonia and the efforts to make the referendum fail.
According to the NYT, there are groups supported by Russia that are trying to plant fear and keep people from voting in favour of a referendum that would make FYROM join NATO.
