National Health service

The Socialist Party proposed a new scheme that will offer free health care for all citizens through the National Health Service.

The SP political program secretary, Ilir Beqja, declared that the current health care scheme in Albania has failed, for as long that is not supported by the contribution of employed people, who are only a few, due to the high unemployment level.

“This is the core of our new health reform that I value as something of radical change. This is a universal coverage for everyone, a national health service that will be the unique buyer of this service. The day when this scheme will start functioning, we will end the notion of obligatory contribution for health care”, Beqja declared.

Mr.Beqja explained that the cost for what he considers “purchase of the system” will be established through the relation of the “National Health Service” and the “Health Centers” that offer the service.

“If we say that we will buy it, we admit that there is a cost. But the cost is the relation between the national service and those who offer it, public and private centres. It’s free to those who benefit”, Beqja declared.

The SP political program secretary says that 16% of the Albanians contribute in the Health Service scheme. More than 80% do not profit and this means that they are obliged to pay.
