National Guard officers testify

The National Guard officers have continued their testimonies for the
January 21st events, in the trial against former commander Ndrea Prendi,
former Mayor Agim Llupo and Margarit Kume.

When asked about who had ordered them to shoot, their answer was unanimous: we implemented the law.

National Guard officer Perparim Bashukaj declared that he had seen the other officers shooting with their weapons, but always in the air. Officer Renis Tahiri, whose duty that day was to stay at the Prime Minister’s Office main gate reminded the moments when 40 people entered the perimeter, according to him. He added that he warned the citizens to leave, because they were violating the law, and then he ran to take his MP5 weapon at the car.

In this car, according to him, there had been a misunderstanding. He had mistakenly taken the weapon of another officer and shot in the air.

When asked by the Prosecutor what other mistake had happened that day, Mayor Agim Llupo had told him that his weapon wasn’t working and that he took his. Then he was ordered to hand Llupo’s weapon over to the driver

Officer Ilir Duraku reminded that his duty was to preserve the institution and that when he was preparing to shoot in the air Commander Ndrea Prendi had ordered him to stop and not shoot. Then he had seen his Commander lying on the ground with a bloody eye. According to the witness, Prendi had refused to go to the Military Hospital. The next session was adjourned to September 12th.
