The government aims to increase the business’   inclusion in legal
initiatives and new policies that will be undertaken by the government
through the institution that will replace the Business Consultative
Council, called National Economic Council.

The MPs raised questions about the way how this institution will function, regarding the selection of business representatives.

Bashkim Sykja, Director of Business Support, Ministry of Energy, Trade and Economy: Important businesses that are part of Chambers of Commerce or business associations, being members of the National Economic Council, will bring the voice of the business community in this Council. The membership of the NEC is a competence of the Prime Minister.

Bujar Derveni, SMI: All 20 members will be selected by the government. The business must chose the representatives and members that will defend their interests and that will propose law initiatives.

The Head of the Commission, Eduard Shalsi, declared that the previous council focused on the business associations, which, according to him, have not worked. Another discussed point was that of the funding of the National Economic Council, which will not be from the state budget, but from business organizations and donators, which, according to MPs, could bring conflict of interest.
