
The Greek Foreign Minister, Stavros Lambridinis, after meeting Albanian politicians and opposition leaders together with his Italian homologue, Franco Fratini, declared that Albania must work harder for the EU road.
“The road towards the future is difficult, needs rigorous preparation,
constructive cooperation between political forces and consensus. We
guarantee that we will be by your side with these reforms, and will
support you in all steps for achieving your dreams and ours”,
Lambrinidhis declared.
The Greek Minister declared that it is time for Albania to find national unity in its road towards EU.
The Italian Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini underlined that Albania has still a lot to do for Europe.
“Albania needs to make a national pact for Europe, and I believe that
this is possible. This political pact will not affect any of us, but the
Albanians. If it will happen, Albania has a very important chance to
become EU member,” Frattini declared.
Commitment for reforms
The Italian and Greek Foreign Ministers,
Franco Frattini and Stavros Lambrinidhis asked concrete results after
the new political situation in Albania, emphasizing that there are
needed serious commitment for the reforms by all parties.
“We
support Albania’s integration”, says the declaration of the main
diplomats in theri meeting with the Albanian homologue, Edmond
Haxhinasto.
On his behalf, the Minister Haxhinasto declared that
Albania is fully committed for the agenda of EU integration, adding that
our country has made progress towards EU.
Topi: Communication between parties
The Albanian President, Bamir Topi, while meeting the Italian and Greek Foreign Ministers, underlined once again the need for communication between the Albanian political parties.
The Albanian President declared that the participation of the opposition in the Albanian parliament for the new session is a positive and significant indicator in this direction. He expressed his readiness that through serious and dignifying efforts, with the help of the EU partners, Albania should receive the EU candidate status.
The Presidential official press release says that both Ministers, Frattini and Lambrinidhis have reconfirmed the unsparing support of both countries and EU, for the Albanian people to fulfill the integration aspirations. They emphasized that Albania’s EU integration process will depend from the fulfillment of these standards, and by the cooperation of the Albanian political class, which must place the major interest of the country above everything else, by having maximal awareness.
Berisha: Will for fulfilling 12 priorities
The Prime Minister Sali Berisha declared that the EU integration process has been, is an will always remain the biggest project for the Albanians, and that the entire work of the government and Albanian institutions is focused on the realization of this project and the fulfillment of the 12 priorities that were set by the Opinion of the EU Commission.
While meeting the Italian and the Greek Foreign Ministers, Franko Frattini and Stavros Lambrinidhis, Berisha expressed his government’s will for cooperating and for voting together with the opposition in order to fulfill all priorities and laws that require qualified majority.
The Prime Minister, according to the Council of Ministers notification, emphasized that cooperation, not boycott, is the ways for progressing with the country’s interests and the EU integration. He welcomed the return of the opposition in Parliament by expressing his desire that this would mark the return of the political dialogue in this institution.
