Hundreds of citizens and students joined the initiative: “Cleaning Albania in one day” in Tirana and Gjirokaster.

The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, together with the Minister of Environment, Lefter Koka, chose the Kombinat area in the Albanian capital to help cleaning with hundreds of students.

“I liked the idea of a young girl, who said that voluntary cleaning should turn into a culture of our society”, Rama declared.

The initiative in Gjirokaster was led by the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Erjon Veliaj, who initially met with the “Eqrem Cabej” University students, where he published the first results of this national action.

Hundreds of tons of urban wastes were cleaned in some critical points in Gjirokaster in the first hours of the morning. The action focused on the upper traditional neighborhoods and also in the new part of the town.

“This is the moment to think about what Albania do we want to live in, and it is good that we protest against foreign wastes, but it is also important to keep our Albania clean. If we want our country to be in Europe, we must start behaving as Europeans. More than 1000 volunteers of every age are leading this fantastic and civil duty”, Veliaj declared.

“This is the right moment to show that through voluntary work we can do many good things in Albania”, declared Zamira Rami, Prefect of the Gjirokaster District.
