Nano meets Rama

The Socialist Parliament Group leader, Gramoz Ruci, was also present in the two hour long Rama-Nano meeting. However, things seem to be the same even after five years.

Nano’s declaration after the meeting indicated that same as with the SMI leader, there was no concrete promise on his support.

“ It is a very useful consultation. I value not only the good understanding with the Socialist Party, which I also found with the SMI leader, Mr. Meta. With a process that will continue, it is very usful to value the irreplaceable role of the Socialist Party, as the main opposition force, in the realization of the integration tasks and for improving the political climate in Albania”, Nano declared.

The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, gave no personal comment on this meeting, but the Socialist press office emphasized the process rather than the name of the presidential candidates.

‘The Socialists will engage in electing a President with votes from more than one party, and giving Albania a convincing argument in support of the EU candidate status request”, the declaration says.

“It is very clear that the next President should derive from an all-inclusive process. Hence, the Socialist Party will contribute in this necessary process, by putting the country’s best interest above anything else”, the declaration continued.

This declaration indicates that the Socialists have not decided to support any concrete name for this process, and even that of Fatos Nano.

“The Socialist Party will soon hold active meetings between the leadership for communicating the decision to all political forces”.

The last part of the declaration shows that the opposition leader will soon meet the Parliamentary Parties and even MPs from the majority, almost certainly even with the SMI leader, Ilir Meta, which would be their first meeting after four years.
