Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future We all remember the catastrophe that was caused by the floods for two
consequent years in Shkoder. No investigation was held for discovering
why it had happened, but the opposition accused the former Ministers of
Economy, Prifti and Meta, for the bad management of the water reserves
in the Drini hydropower plants.
Now that winter is approaching, the new Socialist Movement for Integration Minister of Economy, Nasip Naco, guaranteed that this year there will be no floods due to bad management of dikes.
“If we stay strict to the regulation, the floods from Drin will never take place. There are natural disasters, but the Shkoder residents will never take their boats due to bad management”, Naco declared.
The opposition MPs made a series of questions to the Minister of Economy and also raised accusations for the floods in the recent years. Ben Blushi accused that the floods were caused by a human error. For Blushi, the government filled the dikes to the maximum for selling electrical power.
“Information suggests that the government has gained 80-90 million EUR from the energy export that was used for filling the budget gaps, which often oblige the government to keep the water in high levels so that they can sell energy”, Blushi declared.
Naco invited the opposition MPs to establish an investigation commission for seeing if the regulation was implemented and if the quotas were respected.
The Minister of Economy didn’t deny that there are chances for a possible natural catastrophe.
