On the recent weeks, Washington has turned into the Mecca of the
Albanian politicians. The US State Department was visited initially by
the Mayor of Tirana, Lulzim Basha, then the opposition leader, Edi Rama,
and now Ilir Meta, while PM Berisha is expected to visit them soon.
But what does this mean? For this question Top Channel invited Besnik Mustafaj on studio, the former Foreign Minister.
“This has a clear explanation. The electoral campaign has started, and the tradition of the recent Albanian politics has shown that Washington is an unavoidable destination. What attracts more attention is that the leadership, different to other times, this time has organized visits through lobbies and other pretexts, welcomed very naturally by the US State Department, which shows that America keeps an equal distance from all Albanian politicians”, Mustafaj declared.
One of the strongest debates in distance was about the new parties that have been created and that are expected to be created. Berisha has attacked Bamir Topi and Kreshnik Spahiu as helpers of Rama, while Rama declared that the Democratic Party is fractioning in three.
As regards the accusations and counteraccusations between the parties, Mr. Musaraj declared that both leaders of the main parties feel threatened, especially by the creation of what people call “Bamir Topi’s party”.
“The Party that was warned by Mr. Oketa, because Mr. Topi has not mentioned it yet, means that it has concerned both political parties. Both leaders of the main parties now feel threatened by what Oketa declared, and are trying to push it against the adversary. Both attacks for Topi’s party seem useful for this political initiative”, Mustafaj declared.
There is a strong battle for the former persecuted people and former landowner, who have turned into a current matter of politics. After Rama activated these issues and organized meetings with their representatives, Berisha did not stay much behind with the law for the former persecuted people and other legal amends for the properties.
But what is this battle for? The former Foreign Minister explains shortly that the campaign for the elections of 2013 has already started.
“I see this as a stone hanged on the Albanian politics’ neck. The two political forces feel that they have not resolved the issues of the landowners and the former persecuted people, now trying to use it politically. The electoral campaign has started extremely soon. This is shown by the fact that there is a dose of hipocrisy and lack of realism in their promises”, declared the former Foreign Minister, Besnik Mustafaj.
