Democratic opposition MP Ervin Salianji, in a statement to the media, considered his expulsion and of other 18 opposition members from the Assembly a “disgraceful decision”.
“Another disgraceful decision, I want to emphasize that it is not at the will of any of the parties, opposition MPs are by vote, to treat them with hatred is contrary to the basic principles. The announcement came only an hour before the Ethics Secretariat of the parliament convened, I strongly condemn this escalation, we consider it a declaration of war that we will not avoid, for which we will prepare the response. The dismissal of 19 deputies cannot be done by the government, but only happens with a vote in free elections”, added Salianji.
The Secretariat of Ethics of the Assembly of Albania decided today the exclusion for 20 days from the Assembly of Salianji and 10 days for 18 other MPs of the opposition.
The deputies of the Socialist Party today had asked the Secretariat of Ethics to take disciplinary measures for 19 deputies of the opposition after they have blocked the functioning of the Assembly.
“Deputies of the opposition placed sounding devices in the hall, namely MP Ervin Salianji was holding a sounding device in his hand, which did not allow the Speaker of the Assembly to proceed normally with the agenda. Although she asked the MPs to sit down and continue the session normally according to the agenda, they continued to block the floor”, says the request signed by seven MPs of the SP in power.
The request also refers to the blocking of two meetings of the Electoral Reform Commission.
“The blocking scenarios of the parliamentary activity by the opposition MPs also continued in the Electoral Reform Commission on 26.01.2024, they blocked the hall where the meeting was to take place, not allowing the majority MPs to sit in their seats. Deputies Albana Vokshi and Lindita Metaliaj took the place of the two co-chairs and addressed the deputies of the SP parliamentary group in high tones. This situation blocked the hall and forced the meeting not to take place physically”, continues the socialists’ request.
