The Constitutional Court started reviewing the validity of the mandate
of MP Koco Kokedhima. This used to be a condition of the opposition
before they returned to political normality.
The Democratic Party said that Kokedhima had violated the Constitution by receiving public funds from the agreements signed by the company he owned a few months after receiving his mandate as an MP.
Kokedhima said this process aimed to destroy his political career. He told the court that the agreements were signed before he received his mandate, and that other Parliament Members should be in his same conditions.
The Court doesn’t have a deadline about the final verdict. However, Kokedhima’s is not the only case for the Court. Last Thursday the Parliament voted to send to the Constitutional Court the mandates of MPs Valentina Leskaj and Rakip Suli.
When asked about the General Secretary post at the Socialist Party, Kokedhima said he never aimed for Gramoz Ruci’s place, despite their differences.
Present in the session was the General Secretary of the Democratic Party, Arben Ristani, who said he hoped the Constitutional Court would take the right decision and terminate Kokedhima’s mandate.
“Socialists are rushing to make profits from public assets by violating the law. Kokedhima has profited through his private activities while he was not allowed to, due to his public function. However, he has received public funds in more than 150 cases. I hope judges have not been threatened that their legs will be cut, as it happened with the Kruja judge”, Ristani said.
