Mother Teresa, 8 years after beatification

19 October 2011 marks the 8th anniversary of the beatification of Mother
Teresa, whose real name is Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, beatified by Pope John Paul
II.

The Albanian humanitarian won the Nobel Prize in 1979, thanks to her humanitarian work in Calcutta, India, where she helped the poor, sick and orphan children.

Mother Teresa was born in Skopje, on 26 August 1910, by Shkodran parents. When she was 12, she decided to enter the religious world and when she was 18 she joined the Sisters of Loreto as a missionary.

Mother Teresa passed away on 5 September 1997, at 87, after serving for half a century to the orphans in India and not only.

October 19th, the day of the beatification of the Albanian saint was declared a national holiday by the Albanian government.
