Mother in Durrës asks for help, the pandemic took away her means of living

The situation caused by the lack of work during the pandemic makes the repayment of debts difficult, and the neighborhood shops suspicious of her.

“They don’t give me food articles anymore. They tell me you have no income. They say you have no income to pay back. I used to take them before and repay them when I worked but I don’t have a job anymore. It’s been 2 months that I don’t work. Ever since this fell. I went to homes and cleaned up. But I can’t do a stable job because my mother is paralyzed and needs service. I also have an orphan son. ”

The 6-year-old boy and her paralyzed mother are waiting for her at home, asking for food and care.

“No one’s helped me. They say you will not be alone, but nothing. No answer. I wrote to Edi Rama, to the municipality, and no answer. I’m really bad, I have nothing of the sort. There are two neighbors who help me from time to time. When it opens I will work as hard as I can, but now I’m bad. Mother needs service. I used to lock them in the home in fear, when I used to go to work”.

Dafina shows a plate of bread and plain yogurt in the fridge, and the cupboards without food.

“I’m waiting for a friend to give me a dish of food for my mother or I’ll give her the yoghurt left over from last night.”
She adds that this time can no longer work as a household cleaner and that the disability pension that her mother receives goes to the payment of the rent, water and electricity bills.
