Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future Only 50 of 158 fires that have broken up during this summer season have
been caused by high temperatures or negligence. The rest were caused by
arson.
According to the General Director of the Firefighters in Albania, Dilaver Laci, the pyromaniacs keep being a problem for the spreading of fires in forests and pastures.
“Most of the cases have been intentional. Albania has many pyromaniacs. If last year we had 32 reports, this year there has been none yet. The Firefighters Service and the State Police are looking for the real authors of these fires that have caused many damages in Berat, Kukes or Petrela. I appeal the people to be very careful”, Laci declared.
64 forest fires have broken up during June, damaging dozens of hectares and 94 houses, fortunately without human victims.
The heat of August is expected to aid new fires, and the General Director repeats his appeal to the authorities for supplying better fire engines and helicopters, especially for the remote areas.
