Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
Some clothing manufacturing companies, which have had long-term
contracts with the Greek state, were closed during the last year in the
town of Gjirokaster and left many unemployed women.
The number of unemployed women is reaching high levels in the recent years. The Regional Director of Employment in Gjirokaster says that by the end of 2011, 5236 people had applied for a job, and 1715 of them were women. Thoma Neko says that the Employment Directory negotiates with more than 1500 small and big subjects in the region, for enabling employment.
He says that more people are added to the list, than the ones who are removed after being employed, by leaving the unemployment almost in the same level.
The most affected categories are not the young population, because they abandon the region after ending the studies. People from 40-55 years old have fewer chances to emigrate or migrate within the country, and even less to find a job.
The real employment situation, beyond the official statistics, still recognizes the black and undeclared market, where hundreds of residents work in black, as emigrants, in their own country, without payment standards or any insurance. This contingent is not reflected in the official statistics.
