Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future For the second consequent year, the Chief Prosecutor of Tirana, Sokol
Malaj, has appealed for the increased level of crime in the streets of
the Albanian capital.
“The property related crimes have increased even this year. There are 450 registered procedures more than last year, especially for thefts in public places, thefts in the open”, Malaj declared.
During the annual analysis of the Tirana Prosecutors, in which was also present the General Prosecutor, Ina Rama, the Chief Prosecutor of Tirana made a summary of the investigations held in the last year. There are more than 8000 reports by the police, which shows that each day there is a crime against people.
“Crime against persons has slightly increased, and for some of them, the authors haven’t been discovered yet. There have been 366 penal procedures for serious crimes, such as intentional murder, premeditated murder, murder in qualified circumstances, serious injuries, exploitation of prostitution, production of narcotic substances, armed robberies, robberies with fatal consequences, etc. More than 269 people have been taken under custody, 130 of which are in prison”, Malaj declared.
Malaj added that there was no report from the Supreme State Audit for any corruption case, while 72 of the reports have come from the police, 22 from customs and 10 in other matters, including money laundering and power abuse, which have been reported with the prosecution’s own initiative.
Due to the big number of cases, each prosecutor investigates 300-350 cases each year. The General Prosecutor publicly promised to Mr. Malaj that more prosecutors will be hired.
“I am making a public promise that more prosecutors will be hired, so that you can confront the workload in better conditions”, Ina Rama declared.
