Powerful fires keep burning forests and pastures in different areas of our country.
Besides the existing fires in the last 24 hours, a new one broke up in Tepelena, where the arsonist was caught in the act. But the fire still went out of control and burned down 20 hectares of pastures, fruit trees and vineyards, by even seriously threatening several residences.
Another problematic fire is burning up at the Dajti Mountain. After putting out the main source that burned dozens of hectares for an entire week, a new fire broke up near the villages.
Powerful fires are still destroying forests in Kukes, Mirdita, Lezha and Dibra. In Zejmen, Lezha, an entire area of 15 hectares of forests were completely burned down.
Two other fire sources broke up in Mirdita, near the Ndershen village, Orosh commune, and another in Perlat i Siperm.
The fires in Kukes are continuing out of control, while another one appeared at the Krume district.
The fire in Zapodi is still very problematic, due to the difficult terrain that cannot be reached by the firefighters.
Lack of equipments
Another main cause for the spread of the fires this year is the lack of infrastructure.
A helicopter or an airplane that can use large amounts of water can help putting the flames put in mountainous regions, but the firefighting authorities don’t have any of these equipments.
Another problem in cities is the absence of fire hydrants that can supply water to fire engines. They have only one water supply point in the capital.
Other cities do have hydrants, but they have been out of order for the last years.
This situation is present in several cities, while the firefighters in the Dajti hills are obliged to drive for several kilometers in order to refill the fire engines with water.
