More asylum seekers, Belortaja: “Also consequence of strong reforms”

Selim Belortaja, the Deputy Foreign Minister at the Foreign Policy
Commission confirmed the unusual growth of the Albanian asylum seekers
in EU countries, mainly Germany.

He said that the Albanian government has identified several factors. The European and regional economic crisis, misuse of the visa liberalization system, fraud with tourist agencies, encouragement from older immigrants to take their relatives with them. However, Belortaja has a personal view on this.

“This is my personal view. I don’t want to make this part of the ministry. The strong reforms the government is undertaking, certainly create its cost. Whoever thinks that they don’t produce a short-term cost, are far from the truth. They creat a short-term cost due to the stability and creation of a long-term situation”, Belortaja declared.

While the opposition sees emigration only as a failure of Rama’s government, the Foreign Minister informed that Albania is preparing to welcome immigrants from the Middle East, now that the cold winter might push some of them to chose Albania as a route to the EU, starting from Korce and Gjirokaster.
