“No one can veto the establishment of the Kosovo army”, said the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Euro-Asia, Wess Mitchell, after meeting with the Serbian Prime Minister in Belgrade, where he appealed both parties to work for implementing the agreements reached between them.
“Kosovo has the right to form its army, which will include the Kosovo Serbs. I reiterate that no one can veto Kosovo from creating such structures”, Mitchell declared.
The Serbian President, Alexandar Vucic, underlined his opposition to the creation of the Kosovo Army. “Serbia is ready for compromise, but not by humiliating the Serbian people”, he said.
Vucic added that Serbia has met its side of the agreement intermediated by Brussels, and accused Kosovo of not establishing the Association of Serbian Communes.
The US diplomat is staying in Belgrade as part of a Balkan tour that he started this Monday with Kosovo.
