Minors threatened by internet

Children and teenagers make the biggest number of social blog and
internet users. More than 1 million Albanians are Facebook users, with
hundreds of thousands of children immersed in the internet world.

But how safe are these children in the technology era? Can they fall prey to pornographic networks and criminal groups that exploit children?

Detlef Palm, UNICEF representative in Albania, declared that internet is mostly used by children, so parents should be more cautious with illegal websites of sexual abuse.

“Some children have found new ways of communication on the internet. It is necessary to detect inappropriate and criminal content. Schools, teachers and local authorities should stop children from having access to pornographic sites. There should be no tolerance for the pornographic exploitation of children. The Albanian government is part of the declaration that was signed for punishing and bringing to justice those who use networks and for child pornography”, Palm declared.

The US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, declared that we should help keeping children away from illegal content.

“Technological advances bring new challenges. Children have more access to the internet and we should keep them away from illegal and damaging content”, Arvizu declared.

“Parents should have control of the social networking accounts of their children. We should fight abusive materials with sexual contents. There are 7-year-old children who use internet, and 9-12 year olds who use social networks. Internet usage should be a positive experience and privacy should be respected”, Sequi declared.

The Word Vision representative declared that many children were asked by strangers to meet in secret places through the internet. This makes parental control very important. This conference on internet safety was organized by the Education Minister, Myqerem Tafaj, and the Minister of Technology, Genc Pollo.
