Ministry of Finances: Political prisoners received first instalment

The Ministry of Finances reacted this Tuesday regarding the political prisoners’ requests for compensation of their time served in
prison during the communist regime. They have held a
hunger strike for the last 18 days while striker Gjergj Ndreca set
himself on fire for this cause.

The General Secretary of the Ministry of Finances underlined in a press release that all the former political prisoners who are inside the hunger strike have received the first compensation instalment.

“The former persecuted people who are on strike have received the money from January 2009 until September 30th 2012. The government has given 5.6 billion ALL in total”, declared the Ministry of Finance representative.

According to him, the second instalment is still being distributed and the government has taken all possible measures for giving the compensation funds to all political prisoners. “The compensation value is the highest among the former communist countries”, the representative declared.

He added that the former political prisoner who is today in hospital has received 3000 USD of compensation while Perikli Sqhevi, 585.000 ALL and treasury bonds.
