Minister revokes appointment of Captain

The Minister of Defense has revoked his decision for appointing Ferdinand Kreshpani as first rank Captain of the Marine Forces.

The Defense Minister explained through a public letter addressed to the Presidency that he was based on a practice that both institutions had been following so far.

The Minister refused to admit that he had violated the Constitution with Kreshpani. Imami brought as precedent the appointment of Kristaq Gerveni in 2005, who was holding the same grade on that year.

Imami also mentioned another case in 2008, when this Ministry proposed the head of the Air Forces, and the President did not proceed, because all three candidates were colonels.

The leader of the Albanian defense says that according to the law, the election of a leading captain is under his competency, and not to that of the President, who has the right to proceed only with Generals.

Imami concluded the explanation by mentioning the fact that he has established a special commission for reviewing some candidacies and presenting them to the President as Rear Admiral, who will be the new Commander of the Albanian Marine Forces.
