Minister of Infrastructure: “Protest caused millions of EUR in damage”

“We are making a damage assessment. Preliminary data show that it mounts up to several millions of Euros. The damage was not done to a private operator, but to the Albanian tax-payers. We need 11 million EUR for the asphalt only. That was not the voice of the people. That was a politically motivate voice”, the Minister declared.

Gjiknuri added that the PPP agreement for the road maintenance is not something new because it was issued in 2016. “The maintenance and the cost is a new concept in Albania. The fee was calculated since the Berisha government. It had been approved. It needed confirmation. The maintenance requires 1.5 million EUR per km”, Gjiknuri declared.

The Minister added that the road is not over yet, and that it also requires investments for maintenance. “The circulation tax is not enough to maintain it. It is a costly asset”, he said.
