Minister of Finances: “Inflation dropped due to supply changes”

The Albanian Minister of Finances, Arben Ahmetaj, declared that the Bank
of Albania data will prove wrong the “dark wishing” of former Prime
Minister, Sali Berisha, regarding the economic situation in the country.

“Our analyzes and evaluations show that the inflation dropped during these months due hits made to supply”, Ahmetaj declared.

To explain it better, the Minister quoted the Bank of Albania: “The hits were seen with lower inflation, lower prices for unprocessed foods, oil and other products related to it. Our analyzes and evaluations suggest that the hits against supply are provisory, and inflation will grow slowly during the second semester of this year, staying at the 1.9% level by the end of it”, Ahmetaj said.

According to him, the dropped inflation is not related to consumption, but to the import of products with lower costs.

“The internal demand kept growing in the fourth trimester of this year, supported by growing investments and private consumption. Private consumption growth was accelerated in the fourth trimester with 2.1%. Positive developments in the job market, easier crediting options and higher purchase power are seen as encouraging factors for family consumption. Private consumption was increased during the first trimester of 2016”, Ahmetaj said.
