The country has entered the second month of massive power cuts, and no
one from the state or private institutions has given an explanation
about the days to come.
Same as CEZ and TSO (Transmission System Operator), the first private and the second owned by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy blame each other for the recent prolonged blackouts by removing the responsibility from themselves, while the country continues to have power shortages, the consequences of which are very significantly.
TSO declared yesterday that the main southern cities will have further cuts, due to the weak network.
A good explanation for the future of the Albanian energy system could have been given by the Minister of Economy, Nasip Naco, in the annual report, which didn’t happen.
The Minister admitted that there have been power cuts, but he declared that they were due to the weak network.
“The defects should not be confused with the rest of the power supply. Only yesterday, 25 million KW hours of energy have been consumed, and yet we have taken all measures for buying electric power”, the Minister declared yesterday for the media, but without explaining any further the steps that have been taken by the government.
Part of it is already known and realized, the power import from KESH. The government has allowed the corporation to buy energy at any cost, at any price.
However, the government seems unprepared for the seemingly unavoidable crisis. Although they were aware that the power shortage was due to the weak network, the state owned company, dependant from the Ministry of Economy, did not make transparent the reasons why the TSO has ordered more frequent power cuts, and when will this end.
The annual analysis for 2011
The Minister of Economy, Nasip Naco, considered 2011 as a successful year for the Ministry he leads, while announcing the annual analysis.
Mr.Naco emphasized the finalized project for the 400 KW inter-connections between Elbasan and Podgorice, as one of the biggest achievements of his Ministry.
He also underlined the reforms and the some important laws that have been approved for the energy and business areas, especially the new status of the energy bills as executive titles, the improved trade relations of Albania and the expansion of the privatization process.
Mr. Naco also mentioned the 300 concessions given for the construction of new hydro-power plants, but without answering to the question of how many of them had been built. As regards the power cuts in the recent month, he declared that they are caused by the network defects and high consumption.
