Minimal wage increase

The businesses who use semi-processed materials say that the government
project for increasing the minimal wage is a hit to the inward
processing industry, by increasing the production cost.

“Wages and insurances are the biggest cost for the inward processing business. In the conditions when liquidity has become an emergency of the moment and a heavy burden for our sector, this sudden increase also raises the cost”, declared Lindita Legisi, Chairman of the National Chamber of Clothes.

The inward processing industry was the first facing the crisis consequences in 2009. Exports shrank with 15%, and many clothing enterprises were obliged to cut their working forces. After two years, the business revived by increasing exports and returning to the level that they were before the crisis. But the Italian economic problems have put this sector in new difficulties.

“It’s true that we have signed agreements and contracts, but all the countries that have been directly involved by this crisis, are starting to have problems with the payments and delays, putting us in big difficulties”, Legisi declared.

In the first five months of the year, the textile and shoe exports fell with 3.7%. Businesses complain that the minimal wage increase will burden the inward processing industry even more, which is one of the biggest sectors of our market.
