Miners threat with hunger strike

The Bulqize Miners have entered the sixth day of protest against the ACR
Company, claiming that they are not being allowed to start working.

They say that ACR has violated the agreement, hence they will start protesting in front the mine galleries, threatening with hunger strikes.

According to an agreement between ACR and Turalba Company, which has been signed by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Energy, the miners should be working at the Area D of the mine.

The Agreement provided that the work in this area, considered problematic as regards security, should have started after the reconstruction of the galleries.

“We have worked for three consequent months for reconstructing the galleries and we are much revolted that the ACR leaders did not allow us to start working normally. The conditions for starting the work have been fulfilled and we have a regular agreement”, the protesters declared.

They added that six days ago, when they went to take the working uniforms, they were sent back by the private police.

The Bulqize chrome mine specialists say that despite the investments and the work made in the last three years, the Area D of this mine is still problematic, as regards safety conditions.

After protests and two hunger strikes held one year ago, it was decided that the Area D at the Bulqize Mine should stop working and keep going on with the investments in the gallery.
