Miners protesting in Tirana

After interrupting work in the chrome mines for two weeks, the miners
protested in front of the Ministry of Economy, in Tirana. (UPDATE)

They asked the Albanian government to intervene and solve the problems with the concessionary company, to which they presented a series of requests demanding pay raises, safety at work and on the future of the mine itself, which is the main source of jobs in this poor area.

The miners’ requests are essential, but they have received no answer from the Ministry.

They asked a meeting with the Minister, while warning other protests.

ACR leaders answered this Sunday to the list of requests presented by the Bulqize Miners Syndication. After the syndicates sent a draft-agreement to the ACR Company for starting negotiations, Rudolf Skatsche, one of the co-owners, answered by asking the interruption of the strike in exchange of a 10% pay rise, from 20% that the workers had demanded.

He also offered to pay the 10 strike days as holidays, while miners have interrupted work for more than two weeks. As for the pensions, ACR said that they had to review the contracts. The letter also stated that the miners’ request about the transportation companies was out of discussion and could not be negotiated.
