Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future All public kindergartens have replaced milk with tea in the menu, while
specialists say that there are no acute effects on the consumers.
However, it could cause a long-term chronic effect, keeping in
consideration the quantity of aflatoxin in the food product, especially
to Hepatitis B carriers.
However, EU countries have an aflatoxin limit of 0.05 mg per KG, while in America it is 10 times higher. Specialists say that they refer to the EU standards, due to the proximity of geographical and atmospheric elements.
The Albanian Council of Agro-Business considers early the alarm given by
the Albanian and Kosovo authorities regarding the aflatoxin norms
allowed by the EU in some types of milk produced in our country. The ACA
Chairman, Enver Ferizaj, declared that for as long that both countries
have no certified labs, the alarm is causing a irreversible damage to
the Albanian business.
“They said that Aflatoxin is present, but they didn’t say at what level. The alarm was raised too early and is damaging the Albanian milk producers. There are corruptive affairs that want to ruin the Albanian market”, Ferizaj declared.
ACA says that when this is proved true, the product should be removed from the market, but the authorities should be very careful to not damage all Albanian products.
“We appeal the responsible institutions to not rush with media declarations, but they should wait for the results. They’re not blocking two or three people, but all producers”, Ferizaj declared.
After the alarm given by the Kosovo Food and Veterinary agency, the Albanian National Food Authority declared that the preliminary tests showed a presence of Aflatoxin which was higher than the European norms. But these results remain preliminary, since the ANF lab is not accredited for Aflatoxin tests, and they are still waiting for an answer from EU labs.
