Milk alarm. Authorities start inspection

25/02/2013 00:00

After the Food and Veterinarian Authority in Kosovo raised the alarm for
some types of milk that resulted with high charges of aflatoxin, the
National Food Authority in Albania is trying to verify the alarm.

The Food Authority will publish the analyses this Tuesday. So far there has been no official answer.

The companies that produce and sell the milk say that this is actually an attack from the competition.

Specialists say that aflatoxin has B1 and B2 cancerous substances, which is then dissolved in M1 and M2, very damaging for the human body.

If milk has a higher level than 5pb, according to experts, it should be banned.

The Ministry of Agriculture declared that they have made periodic inspections and they have not found alfatoxin, including the imported products.

Unofficial sources however say that there is not a thorough inspection to Albanian products and imported raw materials. They say that the inspections are not held as often as they should.

However, the alarm has only been raised from the Kosovo Food Authorities, and there has been no confirmation from Tirana.
