1800 troops from the Albanian Armed Forces, the State Police, the
National guard and the Kosovo Security Forces paraded for one hour at
the Skanderbeg Square, in presence of high rank state authorities from
Albania, Kosovo, foreign friends and thousands of citizens who followed
the parade.

The veterans were the first group that paraded, followed by the representatives of the NATO members, in which Albania is a member since 2009.

The Armed Forces of the Albanian republic take pride with the battalion of the special commando troops, known as the Purple Berets, certified by the NATO General Headquarters as the elite of the Armed Forces in Albania. With peacekeeping and combat missions in Afghanistan and with martyr Feti Vogli, they have turned into the pride of the Albanian army.

What attracted attention was the bodyguard of honor of the Armed Forces that performed for the first time with weapons and choreography, a novelty for the Albanian army that is expected to turn into a tradition of this elite formation.

Besides the foreign friends, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, made the first speech in which he expressed his trust in the bright future of the Albanian nation, which, different from 100 years ago, today has on its side the most powerful alliance on earth.

Prime Minister Berisha had chosen another motive in his speech to honour Albania’s independence. After the homage, by mentioning the names of the heroes who founded the Albanian state, or what he called the 40 Saints of Indepdendence, Berisha dedicated this 100th anniversary to every common Albanian, without being able to hide his emotions.
