The UEFA delegation, led by the president of this institution, Michel Platini, arrived this Wednesday in Tirana.
The situation of the Albanian football, infrastructure and improvement projects, especially in fulfilling the national criteria, were the main topic discussed between Platini and the Prime Minister.
Rama updated the UEFA president with the project for rebuilding the Elbasan Stadium until September, which will give the right conditions for international matches, until the National Stadium will be built.
“I informed him that we are committed to give to our National team a stadium in Elbasan that will be on the level of image that we want for Albania. In cooperation with the Albanian Football Federation, the government will finance this operation. We also spoke about the future of the National Stadium, which, unfortunately, doesn’t have the standards to welcome an international match”, Rama declared.
Platini underlined the significance of infrastructure not only for increasing the football level, but also for the image of Albania.
“We spoke about the new stadium, something that the Prime Minister has consulted together with President Armando Duka, and that will be realized as soon as all conditions are created. The new stadium will be built in Elbasan, 40 kilometers from here. It will be very important for international matches. It will also be important for creating a new vision for the football sport in Albania. Started from September, all matches in Albania will be viewed from all over the world”, Platini declared.
The UEFA president, accompanied by the General Secretary of UEFA, Gianni Infantino, together with other members of the delegation, visited the AFF offices where they attended a meeting with President Armando Duka.
President Platini discussed with Duka regarding the progress of the Albanian football and the contribution that UEFA will give for its development. Platini valued the cooperation with AFF through different projects financed by UEFA and promised that their assistance will continue in the future.
n this meeting was also a delegation from the Kosovo Football Federation, led by its President, Fadil Vokrri.
